Chapter 6: Ash
Ashley realized he just dodged a bullet. Every so often he took a quick glance back at the academy. Then just as sudden as it appeared the fog dissipated. For about a dozen minutes she continued driving unit she saw the manor.
It stood tall against the green meadow. The manor was U-shaped. Large floor-to-ceiling windows adorned the front. As Emi drove to the front door five individuals stood there waiting.
“Good afternoon Ms. Exodia,” a tall male with olive skin and curly hair spoke.
Ash blinked twice turning to Emi she asked. “So who are these five teenagers with attitude? Also do they have the required token minorities? Oh they do.”
Emi looked at her confused. “What? No. These are the Slayers. They are the ones responsible for defending the academy when monsters show up.”
“My name is Jay,” the curly haired male spoke. He stood one step ahead of the rest making his presence felt. His eye catching red blazer exhumed leadership.
A short girl with almond shaped came forward. “I am Trinity. Just come to me if you have any questions.” Her short hair framed nicely her heart shaped face. The pink blazer seemed to reveal her gentle personality.
“I’m Zeke pleasure to meet you.” This time a black male sporting a top fade spoke. His charismatic smile charmed all who saw it. He wore a black blazer.
Soon after a bespectacled blonde girl introduced herself. “Hello I am called Melanie.” Her clumsy mannerism indicated she was brilliant like the yellow blazer she had on.
Last but not least, “Collin.” A brown haired male addressed. A man of little words. His cool disposition matched his blue blazer.
“Wow you all are color coded too.” Ash stared at them amazed.
Emi nodded, “As per the President’s instruction.”
“So let me get this straight,” Ash began. “You are five teenagers tasked to protect this island from the forces of evil.”
“Yes,” Jay replied straightforwardly.
“Emria don’t you think you went a little bit overboard with these ‘Slayers?’ Also why not use adults? I mean teenagers. Even our own foals are not known to make the best of decisions.”
“Milord worry not I act as their advisors. Teenagers are easily brainwashed. You should see how compliant they are. Human adult tend to ask questions.’”
“Ah, more importantly do they have giant mechs to destroy the monsters in their final form?”
“I must apologize Milord. They don’t it seems as if humans are unable to reproduce that technology at the moment.” This last part was spoken sarcastically.
Hearing that last part Ashley sighed, “You are having way too much fun.” He wondered aloud.
Emi decided to move to next part. The tour of the manor. Wishing the slayers a good day she led him inside. Opening the doors twenty people stood in a line waiting. They were the ones responsible for keeping the manor in top form. Like the rest of Terreste they were all students. The best of the best at their respective crafts.
“Ms. Exodia,” A lanky silky smooth hair, villain looking dude spoke. “Allow me to present myself my name is Alfred and I am the head butler.”
“Cool nice to meet you all. Just one request don’t call me Ms. Exodia it’s creepy. Ashley or Ash is fine,” he flashed them a smile. The normally taciturn Alfred flushed red when faced with this peerless beauty.
Seeing this reaction Emi chuckled. “It’s okay you all can go back to work. I’ll show Ash around the place.”
Moving out of the foyer she showed Ashley the living room. A long L-shaped white sofa acted as the centerpiece. In front of it a square coffee table, with a glossy white finish, stood atop a pale blue rug. Fixed on the walls were several paintings. Passing a glass door Emi led him to dining room. Simple in its design the room only had a long table surrounded by a dozen chairs. A large window gave way to the backyard. Opening a sliding glass door, he followed her outside.
Surrounding on three side by walls the patio stood out like an oasis. A stone pathway acted as a divider Trees acted as a gazebo shedding some of the sun’s ray. Whilst a blue pool provided a counter from the heat. Nearby a wooden platform supported a patio seating set. A fully stocked bar acted as a background. Following the pathway Ash noticed a small gate. On the other side was a white sandy beach.
Returning back to the dining room, Emi turned left walking down a hall. He trudged behind her. His focus trying to capture as much as possible. Opening a door Ashley recognized this was the kitchen. The size of a classroom. The kitchen was a marvel to behold. In the center a large semi-circular island gravitated all the staffs around it. On the glossy white counters various dishes were prepared. The food seemed pristine. His mouth began watering.
“This is the food the President prepared for you,” Emi announced.
Any positive emotion he may have had vanished. In front of him was the buffet of death. “Ytfret, I found the food. Come to the mansion.”
“Apologies Milord. But at the moment I am currently healing.”
Ashley noted his attendant curt tone. Still this was a matter of life or death. “If you don’t help I’ll make sure Emria cooks for you every day. I will force you to eat it.”
“Milord… you wouldn’t dare.”
He curled his lips, nodding to whatever Emi was currently telling him. He watched as the chefs decorated death’s buffet. Even after his threat to Freddy he contemplated a plan b. Rewinding time seemed like an apt strategy. Any method to avoid eating this death sentence.
Then a simple answer popped in his head. “Say Emi, can we throw away the food.”
Emi flinched back, shocked at her proposal. “No, besides the President has worked hard on it.”
“Have anyone tasted it?” he asked a nearby brunette female chef. The chef shook her head. “The president said it was perfect his morning when she was done. So we took her words for it. She even prepared special china to serve the dishes.” He recognized these “special” Chinas. They were from the potion tool kits.
Wanting an early trip to heaven Emi defiantly took a spoon. “It can’t be that bad,” foolishly she dipped it in a bowl of soup. As she prepared her ascension into her next life she noticed something strange. The spoon had a hole in the middle.
He had to admit. It really wasn’t that bad. The soup only burned a hole in the middle. “Are all the dishes… death’s sweet embrace?”
Ash shuddered. The first, and last, time he tried Taylor’s potion was the only time he came close to dying. “Yeah. We need to dispose of everything.”
“Wait what about tonight’s dinner?” Emi asked.
No sooner had Emi spoken these words Freddy sprinted to the door. “Where’s the food?” Gasping for breath his disheveled hair stuck to his sweaty face.
Calmly Ash pointed at the buffet. Freddy nodded, “Here’s the play Ashley and I will get rid of everything. Emi keep Taylor out of here and all of you try to remake all of her dishes as quickly as possible.” Instead of bustling they all stared at him.
“I can’t believe it… the principal is actually useful for once.” A tall male remarked. Squinting Ash stared at Freddy. Maybe he took his role too seriously. Might have been a good thing letting Taylor rough him up. Broken out of their reverie everyone split up. Loading up two carts full of food Ash followed Freddy to the living room.
Ash watched as Freddy closed his eyes. He genuflected in front of him. Then his voice reverbed.
<Je suis le serviteur du plus haut. Son ordre est ma volonté. Lui seul j’obéis.>
An amber light shone on his left shoulder. The light began to trickle up to his head. All of it entered his eyes. Shortly after the room went dark. Ash waited for his eyes to open once more. When Freddy’s eyes opened Ash knew the one looking at him was none other than his servant Ytfret.
<Le temps qui change. Restez en paix.>
Ash realized Ytfret stopped time.
“Milord,” he spoke aloud. “Order me to do your bidding.”
“Everything in these carts. Dispose of them.”
Ytfret lowered his head understanding his order.
<Que la saleté que vous soyez disparus en face du plus haut.>
Instantly all the dishes disappeared. Ash sighed in relief.
“Milord about these ‘Slayers.’ It’s them.”
Instantly Ash’s neck snapped. The little amount of magic not locked away began to leak out of his small body.
“Worry not. They are but foals who have just undergone their awakenings. I myself imposed tattoos on them.”
“Is the Empire aware of my whereabouts.”
“We suspect they may have sent several foals to different locations. This is only one group. Besides If it becomes necessary I need not to unlock my magic to take care of them.”
“I doubt it’ll come to this. At the very least be careful around them. The Empire’s cunning. They managed to catch up to me each time I escaped.”
“Yes Milord.”
